The Work

“A portrait is among the oldest forms we have for leaving our legacy.”

You have built something — a family, a company, a discipline, a name. Our work is to render that with the patience and craft it deserves. We accept only a small number of commissions each year, and we live with each of them until it is right.

The finished painting is yours to hang where it most belongs: above the mantel, in the library, in the boardroom, or in the hospital wing that bears your name.

The Process

From the first conversation to the painting on the wall.

The Conversation

A private meeting, in your home or by telephone. We discuss who and what the portrait should hold — the family, the heirlooms, the rooms and objects you would have remembered alongside you. There is no obligation in this first conversation.

II.

The Sitting

We come to you. A patient, unhurried session of fine-art portrait photography — usually a half day, never rushed. We bring the equipment, you bring the space, and together we tell the story.

III.

The Photograph

With our help you select the image. We hand-retouch it and prepare it to fine-art standards. You see the result, request adjustments, and approve the final photograph before any brush touches canvas.

IV.

The Painting

We give the approved photograph to our artist who paints an original work in oils — on canvas, art panel, or hardwood as the work calls for — entirely by hand and in classical technique. The old masters chose freely between surfaces and so do we. When the painting is complete we frame it in keeping with the work, deliver it to your home, and hang it where it belongs.
